2024 Raoul Wallenberg Prize – Call for Nominations

The Council of Europe has officially opened the call for nominations for the 2024 Raoul Wallenberg Prize.  Every two years, the prize is awarded “to an individual, group of individuals or an organisation that has achieved something extraordinary in the defense of human rights, or who have acted bravely beyond the call of duty.” The award was named after the Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who used his status to save tens of thousands of Jews from the Holocaust.

The award ceremony will take place at the Council of Europe around 17 January – the date of Raoul Wallenberg's arrest in 1945. The Jury consists of six independent persons with recognised moral standing in the field of human rights and humanitarian action, and appointed by: the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the municipality of Budapest, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute in Lund, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Raoul Wallenberg family.

The deadline for applications is 31 October 2023. The detailed regulations, nomination form, and the members of the jury are available here:
