Nicolas Levrat (Switzerland) proposed for appointment as the new UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues

Nicolas Levrat of Switzerland has been proposed for appointment as the new UN Special Rapporteur on minority issues by the President of the Human Rights Council. Levrat will replace the outgoing Special Rapporteur, Fernand de Varennes.

Levrat is currently a professor of international and European law at the Université de Genève, where he teaches courses on minority rights. In 2022, he was elected by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe as a member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, in which he serves as the Second Vice-President. He has previously worked on minority issues as a researcher and assistant professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and as a programme adviser at the Council of Europe.
