Norwegian Organization Wins Max van der Stoel Award
The Norwegian organization, Natur og Ungdom, was recently awarded the Max van der Stoel Award. The award is presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in honor of the first OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Max van der Stoel. It recognizes a person, group, or organization that has made outstanding achievements in improving the situation of national minorities in OSCE participating states.
The winning organization, Natur og Undgom, has worked for decades to address environmental problems and protect minority rights. OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, stated: “In recognition of how this youth organization builds bridges among diverse communities and advocates for Sámi interests as a means to achieve its objectives focused on environmental issues, the Jury has unanimously awarded Natur og Ungdom with the 2024 Max van der Stoel Award.”
The award ceremony will take place in the Hague on 6 November 2024.
